"The portrait of Gigi was made just before he left for Italy to receive treatment. He had suffered a bad nights sleep at the gallery and when I arrived he was surrounded by loved ones and his Bioetti box which had his usual treats in it. He seemed remarkably brave and humorous and we laughed about how it looked like a scene from Gandi. Gigi showed me the scar on his chest which the doctors had given him in preparation for his chemotherapy. He asked that I didn't hide anything, he wanted it all in, all there, all laid bare. As if too say, This is Fact, this is me, and this is what is happening to me. I merely painted a picture of what Gigi had already given to me and I hope I have done him well. I hope it can shout out, even if it's 1 percent on the Gigi scale!!"
