Richard Long was born in Bristol in 1945 and studied first at West of England College of Art (1962-65) and then at St. Martin’s School of Art (1966-68). Working as a sculptor, photographer and painter, Long is one of the best known British land artists. He is the only artist to have been nominated for the Turner Prize four times; eventually winning it 1989. In 2001 Long was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts and continues to exhibit at prominent gallerys such as the Tate Britain. He currently lives and works in Bristol. Gigi published the book ‘Mirage’ with Richard in 1998, giving him a blank dummy to fill in with notes and drawings of how he would like the book to be, and which the book finally was.
